WOOD CARVINGS
I enjoy using direct carving techniques to carve wood. In direct carving, you do not have a preconceived idea of what the final result will be. No preliminary drawings or models are used. You work with the material first and let it suggest what it wants to become. My approach is to let go and cooperate with the unconscious and the brain’s ability to quickly perceive patterns. After discovering what seems to be in the wood, the work of carving, sanding and shaping begins. Now the task is to coax out the forms already waiting there, animate the dead wood, and give it a new life.
